A note from Dave Cowling (Paul's brother in law)

Willie,

Hope all is well, I wanted to pass this along. I use getwellsoonpaul.blogspot.com as a sigline on a couple of blogs I visit. I received a note from someone who happened to go there and was moved to write. Feel free to include it in the blog if you like.

This is what they wrote;

"Wanted to Thank You for your sigline. I sat and read the whole blog. What an inspirational ongoing story of a man's recovery and those whom love him. Paul's wife Patty has become a hero to me this morning as I read the blog."

Just a quick note, but it illustrates the power of Patty and Paul's example and the blog itself.

Thanks,
David

May 20, 2009 is the annual Ride of Silence at White Rock Lake in Dallas:

http://www.rideofsilence.org/main.php

It was designed to raise awareness for those cyclists who have been hurt or killed on roadways.

It's not a race, matter of fact the ride is very slow, like a procession. You only need a bike and a helmet. Even an old beater junk bike will work. 10 miles and no one speaks.

In the past, family of cyclists who have been killed in the past year or survivors of car accidents usually get called out to ride near the front and are recognized. Some even wear t-shirts with the names of their loved ones scribbled on the front/back in perma-marker.

Doing this simple ride not only sends a message but also helps to heal alot.

Like I said it's not a race or some big ride, it's one lap around White Rock Lake at a very slow pace. 2,000 people did it last year and quite a few were not cyclists. They were friends and loved ones of the fallen. The ride will pass where Paul's accident occured.
