Paul,Our son Dan was a good friend of yours in high school and after. Dan was also a great friend of Ray & felt a great loss when he passed. Dan lives in Mesa AZ now and his son (Dan Jr.) has been with us for 6-7 weeks this summer in Cedar Rapids. Dan will be coming after him soon. Our whole family will be praying for your recovery. God Bless, Paul & Phyllis Fisher Cedar rapids, IA
Hey Paul, it was so good to see you even though the circumstances could have been better. You don't know what you have done for me and Todd. You have been able to help us put our lives in perspective and realize what is most valuable. We thank you for that.
Patty, I know that these past days have been some of the most difficult you have had to go through, as well as Buzz. Remember what I told you. And if you need to get out just for a bit to a different environment, there is a nice park across Gaston by the Meadows Foundation that would allow you to be close to Paul but give you a few moments to reflect amongst the green grass and shady trees.
I'm so sorry this has happened. I never got to meet Paul, but YOU are easily one of my favorite people on this planet. You're so amazing, and Paul is so blessed to have you at his side. I don't doubt for one second that your presence and your strength is making all the difference in the world for him right now. I have a really good feeling, Patty, that Paul will make a full recovery. To be sure, I'll be praying for you guys night and day.
I am amazed by the outpouring of support from all over the world. I am in awe of the love your friends and family have for Paul. I'm humbled by the example his life has been and continues to be for everyone who comes into contact with him. Now...I would like to be astounded by his recovery. I am praying for that every day.
It was so good to visit with you Patty, along with Paul's mom. Actually, i enjoyed visiting with all of the family at lunch time on Saturday. You all look amazing considering the circumstances! You are all in my continued thoughts and prayers that God will continue give you peace and strength.
As for Paul, I'm praying that BIG guy we all love soooooo much wakes up soon.
OK Babe... I'm writing this knowing you will be reading it when you awaken from your imposed nap. So let's get to it...
For starters, if you needed a break from those slave-driving adv clients, the Baylor Bungalow's is not the best place if what you desire is to get away for a few days and catch up on sleep. I mean, the people are nice and all; and I suppose the room service is adequate; but the decor is uninspiring, the beds lousy, the sheet thread counts totally unacceptable, the food dismal, the mini-bar non-existant, and the view doesn't come close to coinciding with the roomrate.
It's a 0 star experience for a guy who certainly deserves 5+ stars! But I digress...
For the record, we talked about this at great length when I tried to impress upon you that men and bike seats just do NOT go together! It's completely unnatural... And those padded shorts -- ridiculous! Who wants/needs a bigger looking butt? And all that sweat... never a good look regardless of gender. And did I or did I not tell you that ANY sport that requires a helmet is, by definition, not "recreational."
But I guess the nature-boy in you couldn't resist the lure of the sun on your face, the wind in your hair, the smell of oil on hot pavement...
Did you know you can enjoy those exact same stimuli on a sidewalk, wearing shorts that are waaaay more flattering, while still getting your laps in and all the sweat your heart desires? It's called rollerblading... And as a bonus, stealing the occassional drink of water doesn't require acrobatic coordination. I'm just sayin'...
So tell Nurse Helga you've had enough rest and you're ready to go home. And then let's go get you fitted for skates... Because I'm thinking Patty and Buzz would agree that the only bike you're allowed to be on after this is going to have a basket w/streamers and a bell and top out at 1 mph.
Paul, we need you to open your eyes. I dont mean to be bossy, but I am about to have a baby....and you need to be able to meet him or her as soon as possible. Bobby and I talk about you all the time and are continually praying and sending positive thoughts your way.
I feel blessed to be your sister in law, and look forward to having you be a huge part of our childs life. Our child will have so much fun with Uncle Paul, Aunt Patty and cousin Buzz!
So do us all a favor....open those eyes for us....We love you!
Paul - I've been out of the country and just found out what happened. Please know that I am praying for you and your family every day to get through this horrible nightmare! Please get well soon.
I am a Warrior brother in Chicago. I don't know Paul - or any of you in Texas, for that matter. But it really doesn't matter. Paul, my brother, fight! Fight! Fight! There are people who love you, want you and need you around. This world needs you. And I look forward to the day when I get to meet you, my Warrior brother, in person.
Dear Paul: I don't know you, but I wish I did. You sound like the most incredible dad, husband and human being! I'm a designer who has been gone from the Dallas area for many years (but am back now). When I read about you and your cycling accident at the DSVC site, I was moved to tears. Please wake up soon.
I consider myself fortunate to have met you when you were kind enough to come to Lafayette, Louisiana to judge our local ADDYs along with Chris Hill. I had a lovely time talking with you about the joys of children (specifically little boys) and hanging with the group enjoying a beer at the funkiest bar in Lafayette.
thinking of Paul. thinking of this sad situation. thinking all of us should be as generous, enthusiastic and involved as Paul. thinking we all should seek the most out of every moment.
Paul- Your a great guy and artist, I remember both serious and funny conversations we had when you were a student at UNT. I pray for a speedy and complete recovery. The world needs creative people like you. Wake UP!
Paul - you are an amazing guy! I know that you will wake up and wonder what all of the fuss is about...then you'll be looking to read your email! My Family sends love and positive thoughts to you and yours, especially Buzz. Frank can't wait to meet him tomorrow night at the picnic. He says that Buzz needs support too, but not just from all of the grown-ups - so we're coming as a Family. All our Best- Melody, Steve & Frank
Paul- I just heard about the accident this morning and have thought of nothing else since. I see you every couple years and always think "what a great guy, husband, dad!" I am sending all my energy your way and praying for you friend.
Paul, I’m so happy to hear you’ve made more progress today by breathing on your own. You’re such a fighter and I know you’ll be up in no time. We all miss you at the office. Although, you’d be really proud of your team (I know I am). They’ve really stepped up and are taking great care of things. Your leadership and management no doubt prepared them to be so self-sufficient.
Through this experience, I’ve had the opportunity to meet your and Patty’s family. I’ve really enjoyed meeting each of them. They are taking great care of Patty and Buzz which I know will put you at ease. Continue to rest and heal and we’ll all be here for you when you wake up.
Paul, I'm glad to hear you are off the ventilator and are gaining strength. Keep it up, big guy!
I've known you for many years and I did not even know you were a cyclist! How many times have we passed each other out a Whiterock and never recognized each other?
Truth be told, I was pretty freaked out when Sam let me know about your accident, because you and I had just talked the day before about ripping out that little video for the judges choice award your shop had won...and I hadn't heard back from you.
A lot of your friends will be at the picnic tomorrow and I hope you will be able to access all the positive energy we'll be sending!!!
I'm still praying for you to wake up and see how many people care about you. It really touched me to read that you're progressing, and especially that you have a strong grip in your hand! It's hard sometimes to realize that we're all human, but it certainly hits home when we see someone we care about endure such trauma. It just doesn't seem fair that you and your family have to suffer for that driver's carelessness. Can't wait to hear the good news when you wake up!
Paul, you are in my thoughts and prayers everyday. Karen and I send our love to you and can't wait to talk to you when you wake up. Patty I love you and am very proud of you!! Bobby
I just got back from seeing you and had a FedEx from the Decoder Ring!!! They custom designed, silkscreened, numbered and signed 30 posters just for you!!!
You're going to flip out... can't wait for you to see them. I have also received a really large banner from David Carter - you will love it.
You're looking good... Jen and I really enjoyed seeing you.
We'll keep you posted on the turn out for tonight!
Paul and Patty, I'm so happy to read about Paul's continued progress. It will be no time now until Paul is awake. You all continue to be in my prayers and I'm reading the posts every day. You all are so blessed to have so many people that care so much.
BTW your son, Buzz, is beautiful. Such a perfect combination of both of you. I have loved seeing all the pictures on the blog.
To the family, friends and everyone touched by this terrible event: My prayers go out to Paul and to a strong recovery. I live off of Peavy Road and frequently bike to and from the lake, utilizing Mockingbird as it is a very "convienient" path. A friend of mine had called to tell me about the accident she witnessed, about how she drove past at the exact moment, how she gasped for breathe at the sight, how she pulled over to see if she could be of any help, how she sat next to this man, Paul, as he gasped for air. It was just a story told to me, distant other than the connection to the location...until tonight. When I drove past the bridge over lawther (i think?) and saw the banners, the signs, the pictures, I had to pull over as it caught my eye - thinking, could this be for the man in the "story" that my friend had told me about the other week? Just a story, now turned into a reality - and for that, it has made one more family of bikers turn their support towards the Jerde and Hatfield family. We send you our prayers and Paul is in our thoughts. And we will continue to fight for the bike friendly movement in this city, this state, and this country. May Paul live to tell his story and to bike again.
I was driving to a friend's house earlier this evening when I saw everyone gathered on the bridge for "Paul's Picnic". At least 50 people stood there in solidarity and with pride; their posters displayed to the world. What an amazing demonstration of the impact you have had on this world. I honestly got goosebumps that I could not shake. Truly you have made an incredible impression on those around you. Your influence is something to be marveled at. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Just wanted you to know that every one in the the neighborhood has been well wishing and praying for Paul's full recovery. You have our full support and we anxiously for Paul to regain consciousness and begin a successful rehab. You can count on your neighbors through this tough time. We are here for you.
Paul, sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family. You are a strong man. I know you will be entertaining and inspiring us all again very soon. Best, Julie Porter
We are still praying, harder than ever! We're so encouraged to hear the progress report. Patty, you are so close in my mind always. I know Paul feels your support. Paul, have a happy, healing birthday!
My birthday wish for you is that you'll wake up soon. Today would be a great day. It's also my sister's birthday, and she's turning 42. When I called her this morning to wish her a happy day, I also told her about you. Between my my sister in California and my parents in Hawaii, you should be comforted to know that my family has you covered in the Pacific, as far as prayers go.
Paul I got you email after the Dallas Show, it was great to see you as well. I look back to those days on the board as some of the best years. I hope all the best for you and your family. Love is very powerful and you are surrounded with it. I will toast to your good health at the next show! You are in my heart and thoughts Neal
All of us send you, Patty, and Buzz a heart felt wish today, on your birthday. A wish that you will wake up, blow out your candles and take a bite of the best tasting, sweetest cake the world has ever known. Just take it easy on the punch, you might not be ready for that yet...
I'm hopeful (okay, I'm really really sure) that you are about to wake up and return to your wonderful life.
If this is being read to you, I'd like you to know that, seriously, it's time to wake up and get back at it. I can't think of a better birthday present than that.
As always, my wife carolyn has been sending you a steady stream of reiki energy, and hopefully it is of some comfort to you.
Happy Birthday Friend!!! You're always on my mind and in my constant prayers. I know Patty is taking such good care of you. We are all so thrilled with your progress and looking forward to you waking up. :)
People say that all things happen for a reason. It is times like these when I have a hard time finding that reason... So far what I see is one man in the hospital, two families devastated and hundreds of friends heart broken.
As I have been watching this story unfold, I realize I could have been the person on the bike or the person driving the car and the simple fact is that our whole lives can change in an instant.
On one side there was a man on his way home from a relaxing bike ride... On the other side there was a man on his way home from a short trip to the grocery store....
On one side there is a family beside a bed praying for a loving husband and father to open his eyes and get better... On the other side there is a loving husband and father beside his bed on his knees praying the same thing for that man and his family.
The reason?.....Hopefully this will spur the city to put in safer bike lanes to prevent other families from having to go through this.
For now maybe the reason is to make us all stop and hug our spouses and children a little longer each morning...or call our parents more often...or tell our friends how much we love them....I don't know??
I am a friend of the man who was driving the truck and I just wanted to let you know there is a family and huge group of people who didn't know if or how to let you know we are all praying for your familes and a quick recovery for Paul.
May God hear our prayers and let Paul come back to you soon....
Healing thoughts are being sent your way every day from Seattle, Paul. We are old friends of Beth...who looks so much like you! - and we hope that things keep getting better. We were so happy to see pictures of Buzz and the rest of the family - we have heard about them for so many years! - LIz and John, Brian and Jesse
Brother Paul: Haven't met you ..yet. But I look forward to it, such wonderful posts and pics! Come Staff a Louisville Weekend when your up and around. We Love to Love, and ...firmly coax Men into Truth. You are your gifts are most welcome. So bring em on! God's Blessing and Hope and Healing on you and your familty and community.
Paul - I am a graphic design student who was at the conference this past spring and I work at Green Lake Bible Camp up here in Minnesota as a counselor in the summers. I know you are being very strong through this. Keep fighting! You are strongly in my thoughts and prayers!
Paul - we just wanted to tell you we love you and are thinking if you. We are so thrilled with your progress. Sending many positive thoughts your way...
We've never met. Probably never will. Found a note about your accident by accident while perusing my fav designer blogs. From the notes I have read here, and the photos posted -you strike me as a nut (great minds think alike)-you also strike me as a man that has great friends and family. That is undoubtedly no accident. As a designer and fellow human being- please get well soon.
I'm in Little Rock with my family for the 4th but checking the website daily for Paul's progress. Sounds like there are lots of positive things going on. Patty, you and your family continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. I think there are lots of good signs and Paul is just taking his time to heal completely.
Take care and I can't wait to read that Paul is awake. Keep the faith Patty. I know this has been so hard and I pray for you just as much as Paul. I just know everything is going to be okay.
patty! the progress sounds sounds great and i have been thinking about you and paul and just having this funny feeling that things were happening. anyway, you continue to be in my thoughts and pryers daily and paul you keep on keeping on!!!!
Hi Paul, It's so sweet of Patty and family to keep everyone updated on how you're doing. I'm sure it's been truly difficult for them to see you go through this. But, your strength and your will are amazing for all of us to witness. My husband, Don, and I continue to keep you in our prayers. My mom, in Hawaii, emailed me today, telling me she prays for you too. (Even though she's never met you, she remembers when you offered me the job at RSW! Haha!) I can't wait to hear that you woke up and that you know how many people care about you.
O K Paul~ We have been waiting patiently, now it is time to wake up and bless those around you with your wonderful smile! We do not know what kind of journey you are on, we are curious. We are praying for you all the time.
Again, in Iowa, we were together, thinking of you and toasting to you. We have no idea how your journey is to continue....just know that we(and so many others) so enjoy you and the great zst for life that you have......We are so looking forward to sharing that with you again!!! Wake up dear sweet Paul!
Patty and Kay....you gals get some sleep! We are thinking of you, and praying with you. Be strong, and let others be strong..for you!!
Paul: We are still praying for you!! We are thrilled to hear about the progress you are making ... Keep it coming!! We want those eyes to open up all the way!!! love, Laura and Bodie
I don't even know if you and Patty were here when we were connected to ClubCorp - but you're still family to us. Our prayers and thoughts are with you across the miles. It will be exciting to see you read all these messages and know there's a fan from every corner rooting for you.
Hey Paul, It is my honor that my son, Robert Paul, shares your birthday. Robert Paul is very anxious to meet his Uncle Paul...and is already planning a huge birthday celebration next summer. We figured one huge cake will do...just give your nephew his little corner piece so he can dig his hands into it. We are also honored to have our son's middle name after you. We could not have picked a more perfect name!
We love you, are praying for you, and are looking forward to continued progress. Please keep fighting and working hard.
wake up paul, we're friends of kathy and cindy in michibay, and we're P7, that means our prayers will be times 7...coming your way from reading and looking at your family...you will be so glad to wake up to be embraced by all.. hopefully we see you sometime soon at the mustard seed...in manistique the pahl/pelton's on michibay
I ran into a couple of our former students earlier today who had had the privilege of having you as their instructor in their final portfolio course (graphic design) here at the good old (and in many ways new) UNT College of Visual Arts and Design. They hadn't heard about your accident, so I filled them in...
Please know that there's a small legion of folks up here in Mean Green land who are thinking of you and wishing you and your family a full and timely recovery.
I look forward to chatting with you about how to "spin" your accident off as a more manly injury than an auto vs. bike wreck, as we discussed re: your basketball-induced scar at the DSVC Pro. show a month ago.
Bottom line: the only way to keep me from telling our students that you didn't sustain your injury bull-fighting in a small southern Mexican village or wrestling a giant anaconda that was about to attack your wife is for you to wake up and dispute these accounts yourself.
Golly--I seem to have written more than the normal amount! This never happens!
Hey Patty!! I have been out of town, and I just now got to see some of the lattest posts on Paul's progress. It sounds like Paul is doing great and coming along nicely. I know you really want him to wake up and I totally understand, but looks like all the 'rest/sleep' has helped him heal quite nicely. I am sure it won't be too much longer now. Just remember that when he does 'wake up' not to start screaming and get too excited...don't want to scare poor Paul !! LOL It will be a great moment of joy, but try to stay calm. ;) Whatever his physical condition or mental state when he wakes up, just stay positive. It may take some time and physical therapy to get back to the 'old Paul', but that time will be nothing compared to the 'rest of your lives together' that awaits you. Take care Patty and give Buzz a hug from us here in DROC! Emma D.
Patty and Katie, though our ClubCorp days are far behind us, I always smile at my rememberance of you both. I am thinking of you and praying for Paul's return to health.
Checking the website every day and sending good thoughts and prayers your way. Saying a special prayer for Patty because I know this has to be so hard.
I'm hoping and praying for continued improvement for Paul. The healing process takes time and I know Paul is going to be fine.
Special prayers for the doctors and therapists taking care of Paul that they will give that little bit extra that can make the difference.
I've heard they're letting you smell the coffee these days. You know, the phrase is "wake up and smell the coffee", so you better do the waking up part soon. Hmm...perhaps we need to put a few roses under your nose....
Either way, we've been praying for you to wake up, and we have you in our prayers at home and at our church.
Can't wait to see your smiling face and your bright eyes wondering why the heck it's July already and wondering how many press checks you've missed.
Hey its ellen again! well every night i pray that paul is getting better and will soon wake up! today is my birthday and if paul woke up today, it would make a great day even better! i really cant wait till paul wakes up and then we could all see eachother again at the beach! well GET WELL SOON PAUL!!!! xoxox ellen
Dear Paul, From an old friend from Cedar Rapids and on behalf of my family, best wishes for a quick recovery. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Your nephew is growing like a weed and is keeping mommy up all night - but he is most looking forward to meeting you. You two are going to be such great buddies and we'll get to plan one heck of a great birthday celebration for the two of you next summer. I had a wonderful dream the other night about you. In my dream, you woke up and were aware of all of your surroundings. You recognized everyone and remembered everything. I take that as a great sign of things to come.
We love you and continuing to say our prayers for a full recovery. God Bless You!
Patty - Met you once at ClubCorp, long ago, thru Louis. And now getting to know Paul. Checking on you guys regularly. And waiting for the Welcome Home party!
I've added Paul's name and info to the "Prayer Requests" on the website for St. Vincent de Paul Church in San Francisco. A community with many many avid cyclists. I also forwarded the petition info to an attorney colleague that works in a Dallas law firm. He is an avid bicyclist and he agreed to sign the petition and pass along the info on bicycling safety in the Dallas area. (my connection-Paul's mother and my mother Margaret have been friends since childhood. I think the last time I saw Paul was at his grandmother's 100th birthday party sometime in the 1990s!!)
When I first heard of Paul and the accident, I thought to myself, how sad. :( There was a familiarness to him but I couldn't put my finger on it. Then I remembered I went on a tour of MasonBaronet...but surely this couldn't have been the same person...right? As I went to unpack some things a card fell out. I caught a chill as I realized that this card was Paul's. I stopped by the site to check on him hoping to hear some good news...I'm glad he's doing a little better. Here are some virtual hugs to help towards a speedy recovery. ******hugs*********more hugs***********
Hey, Paul! Not a day goes by when I don't get an email or call or head-in-the-office inquiry about how you're doing. Hey, nice strategy playing possum so that you can lie back and listen to the British Open -- but we'd MUCH prefer that you wake up and come back to us in full form! So many people are praying daily for your complete and speedy recovery. I hope you can feel the healing energy coming your way. You're in our thoughts and our hearts, every day.
I was thinking of you and your family and wanted to stop by and say "hello". I was on press with Jeff Blanks a week or two ago and we got into a discussion about you. He heard through a golfing friend. If you are trying to get famous in the golf world this may be the wrong way about it. :) Anyhow, keeping you and yours in my prayers as well as passing your name along to every praying person I know.
Patty - we continue to be encouraged by the good news you post on the blog. Just because some time has passed doesn't mean we don't think about you every day. You are in our prayers.
Clearly Paul is loved and respected by a lot of people. Hang in there buddy - and we expect you to be back on your feet in time for fall campouts with the boys!
i hope you wake your up so we can go to toco diner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nick
Paul and Jerde family, I was heartbroken to read what happened on Facebook. You see, I don't know Paul but was a part of the design community in the Dallas area for many years. I lost my job at American Way Magazine as a result of 9/11 and Paul sacrificed time out of his day to meet with me to review my portfolio. He didn't give me a job but he had many encouraging things to say to me about finding a job and great feedback about my book. I will never forget that. Thank you Paul! I'm saying lots of prayers for you and your family!! =)
I cannot go a day without you in my thoughts. I hope all the best for you. I sent info to some bike friends and they are constantly asking about you. Keep pulling and love to your family. I know you can do it, the love around you is overwhelming. Best to all Neal Farris
Paul, Your old Cedar Rapids, St Matthews Church has been praying for you since your accident happened. At last today at Mass, we had the good fortune to see your wonderful Mother. She let us know about this Blog and I have been reading it all afternoon. I loved seeing the pictures of you and your beautiful family. I would know you anywhere with that same contagious, spirited smile we remember even as a little boy in grade school. We continue to pray for you every day. And for your wife, son, Mom and siblings as well. Gretchen & Mike Sullivan
Just visited your update blog, and it looks to me like you are making progress.
Everytime I read the next post, you are doing something new. I know before too long, you are going to be back to your old self, or maybe even better. "Uber-Paul" is right around the corner, I just know it!
Patty, you have been such a wonderful wife and faithful partner to Paul. I have a feeling this trial is bringing you closer together in the end, and it looks like from our end, that PJ is improving by leaps and bounds each day. I'm sure it doesn't seem like that, but we are all encouraged just from reading your notes. You are an inspiration to all of us.
"A wife of noble character, who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing in value. She brings him good, and not harm, all the days of her life." Prov. 31:10-12
You are this wife.
We are still praying for you guys. We know that God has a plan even when we cannot see what it is or understand how this fits in to the equation.
Paul and Patty - Just wanted to let you know you are both still in so many people's thoughts and prayers everyday. God bless you both, stay strong...The progress is really good, I know sometimes it's tough to see it when you're there everyday but it's really awesome.
If you need anything at all...you know I've got a list a mile long of people just waiting for the opportunity to do something. See you both soon, Sam
Hey Patty! I am keeping you in my prayers! Maybe we should pick another 'pray day' where everyone prays at the same time again to see what we can do for Paul. I still can't believe this happened. I believe everything happens for a reason, but sometimes still wonder why. God bless you and the family, and I hope Paul continues to improve more and more each day. Take care and give Buzz a big hug from all of us in DROC. Emma Dundee
Paul - we are so happy to hear of your progress! Keep up the good work, continue to fight the fight and we pray for your continued recovery. Patty and Buzz - we are sending our love to you daily.
Paul- I've been keeping track of your progress and can see that your courageous spirit hasn't wavered. Thank God you have been blessed with such a wonderful family and I pray for them as I do you during your rehabilitation. The last time I talked to you was many years ago. I was a scared 14-year-old about to enter my freshman year at Regis H.S. You'd come over to pick up my big brother (hanging out before both your college summers ended) and I was greeted by you with the very enthusiasm I needed to get through that next 'big' stage in my young life. "I hear you're going to be the big man up on the hill this year!", you said. The thought of me being a 'big man' anywhere hadn't ever entered my mind but it sure sounded more appealing than having goosebumps about the fear that accompanies a pale skinny kid's first days of high school. "Don't take **** from anybody up there". Paul, I can't say I followed your advice verbatum while growing up, but I have honestly carried those encouraging words with me ever since. You shared a confidence and energy with me that day and made the challenges of the unknown a lot more bearable. All the great things I've been reading about you in these posts this summer all seem to say the same thing--You're an amazing spirit. Not that I doubted it when I think back about Regis High School's sole male cheerleader fearlessly whooping up the crowd into the frenzy at the '82 Boys State B-Ball Tourney. Looking back, you turned that little job from a hilarious novelty into a portrait of respect and determination. I can only imagine what your boundless energy and infectious winning additude has done for your career since. You'd better know that many people you've touched in and outside of work have been able to envision themselves as "the big man (or woman) on the hill" where they previously hadn't thought possible. Though it's pretty obvious who's the original.
I wanted to let you know that my CRHP brothers from St. Jude's Parish in Allen have been and are still praying for your speedy recovery and for Patty, Buzz and your whole family.
Hello my brother in law....I just bathed your new nephew, and thought I would pop on & see what was going on with you.
I can't wait to come visit you again and see all the progress you've made. I love reading the story about how you had to wear a mitten, yet STILL figured out how to pull it off! Only you!!
We love you and you are constantly in our thoughts and conversations. Once Little Bobby has had his shots, I will bring him up to meet his Uncle Paul.
You are officially on the list of one of the most powerful prayer groups I know -- a group of healers and mystics around the country who connect regularly to focus their powerful energies. If anybody has a direct connect to a higher power, these folks do -- and they're praying for YOU. Just like all of us are. We are counting the days until you're back with us, strong and whole. -- Margie Bowles
Hello Paul, Patty and Buzz, We are watching the progress reports and praying every night for continued improvement. Slow and steady works the best. Hope summer in Dallas hasn't been to harsh. Up here in Wisconsin, we put in the air-conditioner but never needed to use it this year. (don't hurt me). You can get even when winter comes. :) - Love, Cousin Joanne
I was a student of yours in 2007for Graphic Design at UNT. You have always inspired me and pushed me to work harder as a designer. Im in Zurich, Switzerland now and have a great position. And I do feel part of it is because of you. I hope you wake up soon and I send my prayers to you and your family.

Good Evening. I hope your day has been a productive one, I'm sure it's been an exhausting one if nothing else. I've thought about you a lot today, as I do almost everyday. I find it odd, really.
We've had no real contact for almost 8 years and now I feel drawn to come see you, to check the blog daily for updates and to pray for you and your family. I am compelled to see your progress thru to the finish or the new beginning.
This past week when I visited, you were finishing up dinner. You were fascinated by Willie's phone, the camera and the ability to hear through it as Patty called you from her phone. You smiled as you looked at the pictures Willie took from his phone of your sharp new haircut. It was a delight to see!
Each week I see this great progress, progress that tells all of us you’re here, just under the surface. We look forward to you coming ashore.
Much love to you, Patty, Buzz and the rest of the family, Kristine
Paul, Patty and family - You are in my prayers daily. This is God's country out here and they tell me the prayers have more power since the source is so close.
I know the source is there too and working. "Patience" is the key. It helps us see the important things.
Someone said that the 23rd Psalm is a Psalm to "Live" by. They said that sometimes in our hurried, busy world, God has to put his foot on us and make us lie down in green pastures. Sometimes he makes us rest.
Just got word of your accident my friend. - Very sorry to hear the news. - I am praying for your complete recovery; protection, peace & comfort for your family; and wisdom for your caregivers, doctors, nurses. Also praying that your story is one that brings hope and encouragement to many. -
Thinking of you my friend!! Just ran across an email from you from a long time ago that made me laugh. Hang in there... your improvements are wonderful.
Patty - I know it's a long recovery process but your strength continues to amaze us all and we know Paul is so lucky to have you by his side.
Glad to hear there is some progress. You are greatly missed.
Also, not to be rude or anything, you missed a deadline on a project we were working on, but I think I covered it.
Seriously, I know we all want more than just baby steps, but that's what's it's going to be about. Just know you will have many, many shoulders to lean on as needed.
Paul and Patty, It sounds like Paul is making some real progress. We continue our prayers for him at home and at our Sunday school.
The Golf tournament sounds really exciting and I LOVE the logo for the tournament. I think alot of your friends that can't participate in the tournament would still love to be able to buy a t-shirt. Just an idea, and could be a good way to raise funds.
Oh my gosh, Patty! I'm so glad to hear that Paul is making such great progress. I've been keeping you all in my prayers, and truly send good vibes every moment of every day. Hang in there. Your love is obviously making all the difference.
This message is from your nephew, Little Bobby. I have heard so many great things about you and now that I have gotten more shots...I'm thinking perhaps a visit is in order? I will talk to my mommy and daddy about it. I love you and can't wait to meet you. You keep working hard and know that we are all thinking about you!
I am thrilled you are being relocated. I know Patty is excited about your progress & I love to hear the updates through Bobby. I look forward to seeing you again soon. You keep up the hard work and we all are looking forward to the day when you get to come home. We will have a huge family celebration in your honor! We love you! Karen & Bobby
Pate Rehab sounds like a peaceful and serence place. I am sure the change of scenary will be great for everyone. I bet Buzz will like it. Also if Paul gets to go outside then it might be nice for him to hear birds and smell some fresh air. We continue to keep you all in our prayers. Hugs for everyone. We love you Patty! Emma
Mommy and Daddy talk about you constantly. I am very curious about you and excited to come meet you at your new rehab facility. I am growing fast and still keeping my parents up at night. They always remind me what a special boy I am because I have your name and also I share your birthday. I hope you won't mind sharing the spotlight with me next June 30th. Rumblings around the Hatfield house is that it will be a big celebration.
Please know that I love you and my parents love you. We are always thinking about you and look forward to the day when you get to come home.
I know this has been a very challenging time for you & Paul. Change is always hard especially when you were so happy with the place you came from.
We are all here for you...to support you, love you and listen. Good days will continue and before you know it, your wonderful husband will be home where he should be.
We look forward to making the trip to Anna to see Paul and see how far he's come.
I recently learned of Paul's accident this week from Brad. Having worked with Paul a few years ago at RSW, I know what a smart, creative thinker he is; he's probably thinking up hospital jokes to use for later.
I think I'll send Paul a Cubs hat; it's never too late to become a Cubs fan.
All the folks in Chicago are wishing you the best! Diane
Paul! I feel like I've been under a rock! I just heard the news for the first time 9 days ago in an email from Brad Wines. I just couldn't believe what I was reading...Paul Jerde? No way! Paul Jerde is indestructible!
I just found your blog and it was so great to read about all of your progress (and recent design awards!) You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed, Paul!
What a great picture! You look fantastic and it's just another reminder to all of us how far you've come in such a short time. The surprise visit sounds like it was alot of fun for everyone.
We all got together at Pat Hat's last nite and of course, your name was tossed around! Everyone is very excited about the upcoming golf tournament and I know it will be a huge success.
Just a note to say I'm thinking of you and hoping today you felt the love of all those who played golf, raised funds, raised awareness, laughed, and drank coffee all in your honor.
Paul - one of my oldest freinds was killed today on his bike in Richardson. RIP Tony Mungioli. This city is so wrong about bikes it makes me crazy. Paul I'm so happy to hear your progress. I hope to see you on another Lipan campout with the boys soon. Hang in there bud - Michael includes you in his bed time prayers every night.
We are coming to see you on Sunday with Baby Bobby. We are looking forward to it. your new haircut looks great! I hope you are having a good week and we look forward to seeing you on Sunday. Keep working hard! Love, Karen
I just talked to my mom and dad tonight and we all have been praying for you and you're family everyday. Had a mass said for you at Holy Trinty in Des Moines.
I had the priviledge of visiting my brother in law yesterday in Anna. Let me tell you...He's doing great! He looks awesome and I was so amazed at his continuous recovery. He has made so much progress and I can see so much improvement. It was so nice to be out of the big city in a more remote area....just hanging out. We took lots of pictures and my son was able to see his Uncle Paul again.
Paul, keep up the great work and I can't wait to come visit again. I loved every minute. You have come so far and I am so proud of you!
What a lovely picture of Beth, Jim,Paul and Patty!!! Great haircuts!!! Everyone looks so good. It is wnoderful Beth that you are able to be in Texas with Paul's family. Yo are always in our prayers. Margaret Maresh and family.
Just thinking about you today and wanted to say hi. It's a beautiful Saturday fall day and it's TX/OU weekend. The game is on, I sure hope my Horns can pull it out...but we'll see. Currently the score is is not in our favor.
I hope today you are able to get out in the sunshine and feel the breeze up there in Anna. I will see you soon, but until then my prayers and good wishes are with you always.
Hello Paul..... I wanted to check in and say hello. We were talking about you last night and about our upcoming visit in early November. I have heard a rumor there will be a game of touch football and lots of cake! Cake is always good. Bobby, Little Bobby and I will be there - and we can't wait to see you. The time will fly by and we'll be out to see you before you know it. We send our love, positive energy and good thoughts your way. Keep up the hard work and we'll see you soon. With much love, Karen
I wanted to let you know that when we come visit you on November 2nd, my parents are going to join in on the fun! They ask about you and your progress all the time, and want to come see you in person. They are looking forward to spending some time with you and hearing about all the things you are doing each day.
I only knew Paul for a short time professional, but I find myself always hoping for him to keep improving. The photos from the recent restaurant visit were amazing! Paul, you look great.
Paul, I always love to read Patty's updates. I check this website every day. I never miss. I am very excited about all of your progress and am really looking forward to our next visit. We are coordinating with with Patty and we'll bring Little Bobby to see you. You keep working hard...as I know you will. You have come so far in such a short time. The holidays will be here before you know it...and this year, we have much to be grateful for. You are at the top of the list. I feel lucky to be your sister in law.
I'm so, so, proud of you and can't wait to give you a huge hug the next time I visit.
Paul, I am just catching up with your newest adventure. Keep fighting, never give up and good things will happen. I am confident you will overcome any odds you may encounter. Thats nothing new. I'm not sure where your memory is but I often recant some of the times we shared together to those who didn't know me from Dallas and DLR. My favorite is the first lollapalooza featuring Jane's Addiction. Good times. I will never forget so if you need someone refresh you look me up. P.S. Tell you wife I said Happy Birthday and I have finally forgiven her for pinning that stupid nickname on me which follows me to this day. ZsaZsa
Hey Patty!! I haven't been on here in awhile...life's chaotic that way, right? I am so happy to hear about Paul's progress. I know it's been five months already, but honestly he has done so well and come so far. The doctors are right in telling you that some people don't get to this point or just not as quickly. I don't even pretend to understand why some things happen anymore, but I just wanted to say you are blessed that Paul has done so well thus far. Truly! Your whole family is in my prayers and I hope that Paul continues to progress right along and things get easier for you in the near future. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and have an even better Christmas this year. We love seeing all the pictures that have been posted, and I know Paul is absolutely going to be amazed when he is able to really look at this blog site and appreciate it and see how much love went in to it. Keep posting the updates and the pictures, and if you need anything please don't hesitate for a second to let us know. God bless and give that adorable Buzz a hug from us!! Emma @DROC
We are still praying for you! How wonderful to be coming home. So pleased to know that Kay was with you for Thanksgiving and the pictures of the haircut with Jim so good to see you together. Margaret and family in MN.

Paul, I think about you often as I follow your progress. I'm going to try to stop by and say "hi" next time I'm in Dallas. You're a good man, and I'm so glad you're with us!
Paul and family, I'm another who comes into your life via Willie. It is Valentine's Day and although you obviously have many wonderful people in your life as I do in mine, I've chosen you to be my special sweetheart today. No chocolates, no flowers, no romantic dinner...rather a huge heartful of love and good juju for your continued recovery. These gifts are unlimited and don't expire so tap into them all day, every day as you choose. Janie
PAUL JERDE.... 1st off....I can't believe this Crazy/Tragic/Random happening(I had no earthly idea prior to tonight) Your strong response is Awesome!!! 2nd off.... Your family is GORGEOUS... Wonderful to hear of your ongoing accomplishments. Hi to Beth. A belated Happy St Patrick's and many irish blessings. Today on the feast of St Joseph many blessings to an awesome father surrounded by a beautiful loving family. Always in our prayers. Margaret Maresh and family
Hi, Paul! It is Saturday afternoon and I am sitting at my daughter,Liz' home whil my Ann was off getting her hair trimmed and a new shade, which takes a couple hours. On her way back, she brought me Blizzard on some kind with lots of pecans. Liz is now off to get her oldest, Sarah, and 8th grader, who has spent the day at a technical college finding out about engineering, which is what both parents are. The other two have been here all afternoon. Katie has two friends visiting, and Mia is wandering around the house and yard. Yestday afternoon I had the thrill of a call from your mother. So, I know all about you and your siblings. No secrets between your mother and me!! Ha/ha/ha. Don't worry, there is nothing salacious that would hit the front pages of any gossip zine. My Cathy still lives in San Fran, but now works in San Jose where the computer stuff is in a company called Impress. It does much more than could ever understand. Could be you understand. It started with medical instrument use. This weekend my Tom is in Sri Lanka to get a rest. Like his father, he has to literally get far, far away from work in order to relax. Next he will be here for Mothers' Day and then off to San Fran and Cath for Memorial weekend. And he insists he never has enough money to do anything. Ann was born the year Alaska joined the union, so she is going up there to get a free train ride from Anchorage to Denali (I think). She makes it up there a few times each year. Living there for five years made her fall in love with Alaska. My Mary will be traveling around this summer. She still enjoys teaching her Special Needs students. Oh, I do love talking about my children. Nothing worth putting in gossip magazines either. Well, keep out of mischief. At my age I don't have a chance or the energy to stay up past nine at night. God be with you today and always. May He continue to Bless and Keep you. Isn't it fun to blame God for all the good and bad stuff He allows to happen to us. Babling on, I must quit. Peace! Margaret Maresh and family.....
I love reading this blog and seeing how all of you are doing. The recent pictures were great and I'm so glad that you were there to see all the cyclists go by in memory of those who have been killed or injured in a biking accident. I was also riding over Memorial Day weekout but not in an organized ride. I was on my mountain bike on trails and dirt roads in NH. It was lovely and you were certainly on my mind.
You are truly an inspiration. I am looking forward to golfing with you again very soon. Thank you Patty for all the love and thoughts that you have shared with us. The picture of Buzz looking at Paul is a true Father's Day moment .
G'day Paul and Patty and your loving family I am a MKP Warrior from Queensland Australia. A mutual friend Willie posted what happened and I just wanted to say from down-under get better mate!......I hear you are a pretty awesome type of bloke and have a loving and supportive family. Whatever your journey is my brother know that there is another message in all this ...sometimes it ain't all that clear but be sure there is a message. From me and my family if there is anything that would support you in your recovery anything that would make you laugh (or cry) please let me know, I will send whatever suits your fancy (within reason of course :)) from our country. Patty please hear that you are not alone and that whatever support you need, the brothers of this great organisation WILL do it for you and Paul. I do hope things start to look brighter for you all love and best wishes Larry Dawson MKP Queensland, Australia
Paul and Patty, I have not spoke to Ya'll in a while, Cherie I moved to Nashville w/ the new Dick's Last Resort Co in Feb. We miss being in Dallas w/ all of our friends and family, but all in all, Nashville is a pretty cool place to live. Paul, you look like you are making fine progress, I'm so glad to see it. I know that you will continue to work hard not just for yourself, but for Buzz and for Patty.
Hi, Just wanted to put my two cents in about Paul's road to recovery. I have been following it from almost day one. My daughter, Kristine Bates, sent me the blog and I have kept up with it during the last 1 1/2 years. I admire Paul's digilent hard work and your's too, Patti. This has been a long road, but there is remarkable progress. Thanks for letting me share in your story. Marion Bates

You all are always in our thoughts and prayers.
Brandi and Todd
Dear Patty,
I'm so sorry this has happened.
Love,
Kathy Nichols
Paul and Patty,
Our prayers are with you all. Get well soon.

Paul, Patty, and Buzz:
I am amazed by the outpouring of support from all over the world. I am in awe of the love your friends and family have for Paul. I'm humbled by the example his life has been and continues to be for everyone who comes into contact with him. Now...I would like to be astounded by his recovery. I am praying for that every day.
Much love,
Dana

Dear Patty, Paul, and wonderful family,
It was so good to visit with you Patty, along with Paul's mom.
Tina Smith
(BIG CHEEK SMOOCH!)

Paul, Patty and Buzz..... You are in our thoughts and prayers. Please let us know if there is ANYTHING we can do!
Jimmy, Tricia and Austin Wood
Paul, we need you to open your eyes. I dont mean to be bossy, but I am about to have a baby....and you need to be able to meet him or her as soon as possible. Bobby and I talk about you all the time and are continually praying and sending positive thoughts your way.
I feel blessed to be your sister in law, and look forward to having you be a huge part of our childs life. Our child will have so much fun with Uncle Paul, Aunt Patty and cousin Buzz!
So do us all a favor....open those eyes for us....We love you!
Love, Karen and Bobby

I am a Warrior brother in Chicago. I don't know Paul - or any of you in Texas, for that matter. But it really doesn't matter. Paul, my brother, fight! Fight! Fight! There are people who love you, want you and need you around. This world needs you. And I look forward to the day when I get to meet you, my Warrior brother, in person.

Dear Paul:
I don't know you, but I wish I did. You sound like the most incredible dad, husband and human being! I'm a designer who has been gone from the Dallas area for many years (but am back now). When I read about you and your cycling accident at the DSVC site, I was moved to tears. Please wake up soon.
Paul,
I consider myself fortunate to have met you when you were kind enough to come to Lafayette, Louisiana to judge our local ADDYs along with Chris Hill. I had a lovely time talking with you about the joys of children (specifically little boys) and hanging with the group enjoying a beer at the funkiest bar in Lafayette.
I will keep you in my prayers.
Please be well.

Paul- Your a great guy and artist, I remember both serious and funny conversations we had when you were a student at UNT. I pray for a speedy and complete recovery. The world needs creative people like you. Wake UP!
David Blow
Paul - you are an amazing guy! I know that you will wake up and wonder what all of the fuss is about...then you'll be looking to read your email! My Family sends love and positive thoughts to you and yours, especially Buzz. Frank can't wait to meet him tomorrow night at the picnic. He says that Buzz needs support too, but not just from all of the grown-ups - so we're coming as a Family.
All our Best-
Melody, Steve & Frank
Paul-
I just heard about the accident this morning and have thought of nothing else since. I see you every couple years and always think "what a great guy, husband, dad!"
I am sending all my energy your way and praying for you friend.
Please wake up soon!
Jen Butters
Paul,
I’m so happy to hear you’ve made more progress today by breathing on your own.
Love,
Holly
Paul,
I'm glad to hear you are off the ventilator and are gaining strength.
Keep the healing going buddy,
Rob
Paul,
I'm still praying for you to wake up and see how many people care about you.
Your friend,
Elizabeth
Best wishes from a fellow cyclist. Sending lots of positive healing wishes & prayers.
Paul, you are in my thoughts and prayers everyday. Karen and I send
our love to you and can't wait to talk to you when you wake up. Patty I love you and am very proud of you!! Bobby
Paul -
I just got back from seeing you and had a FedEx from the Decoder Ring!!!
Sam
Paul: I have been following your progress and I am so happy to hear the latest news. All good thoughts and prayers from me are with you.
Paul and Patty,
I'm so happy to read about Paul's continued progress.
Looking forward to reading that Paul is awake.

To The Jerde Family,
Our son, Braden, played t-ball with Buzz this season. He is praying for Buzz's Daddy everyday.
Our hearts ache for you all right now. Know that we will continue to pray for healing for Paul and strength for your family.
Praying for you all,
The Ridnour Family.... Justin, Ashley, Braden and Sydney
To the family, friends and everyone touched by this terrible event:
My prayers go out to Paul and to a strong recovery.
Love,
Sarah and Allen.
Randy

Paul,
My birthday wish for you is that you'll wake up soon. Today would be a great day. It's also my sister's birthday, and she's turning 42. When I called her this morning to wish her a happy day, I also told her about you. Between my my sister in California and my parents in Hawaii, you should be comforted to know that my family has you covered in the Pacific, as far as prayers go.
I'm so glad to know you're progressing each day.
-Elizabeth
Paul I got you email after the Dallas Show, it was great to see you as well. I look back to those days on the board as some of the best years. I hope all the best for you and your family. Love is very powerful and you are surrounded with it. I will toast to your good health at the next show!
You are in my heart and thoughts
Neal
Happy Birthday Paul!
All of us send you, Patty, and Buzz a heart felt wish today, on your birthday. A wish that you will wake up, blow out your candles and take a bite of the best tasting, sweetest cake the world has ever known. Just take it easy on the punch, you might not be ready for that yet...
Cheers!

Dear Jerde and Hatfield Family,
People say that all things happen for a reason.
Sending you birthday wishes for continued improvement. You are a great man! I am blessed by your friendship.
Love from Brenda and I.

Most sincerely.
Eleanor

Hi Paul, It's so sweet of Patty and family to keep everyone updated on how you're doing. I'm sure it's been truly difficult for them to see you go through this. But, your strength and your will are amazing for all of us to witness. My husband, Don, and I continue to keep you in our prayers. My mom, in Hawaii, emailed me today, telling me she prays for you too. (Even though she's never met you, she remembers when you offered me the job at RSW! Haha!) I can't wait to hear that you woke up and that you know how many people care about you.
Elizabeth

Hey Paul,
It is my honor that my son, Robert Paul, shares your birthday.
Love, Karen Hatfield

Hi Paul:
Peace and love,
Michael g of UNT Com Design
Emma D.
Hi Paul,
I'm so glad to hear that you are doing better. Keep up the good work. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Giddy up.
Patty and Katie, though our ClubCorp days are far behind us, I always smile at my rememberance of you both. I am thinking of you and praying for Paul's return to health.
God bless,
Cheri Chapman

Checking the website every day and sending good thoughts and prayers your way. Saying a special prayer for Patty because I know this has to be so hard.
I'm hoping and praying for continued improvement for Paul. The healing process takes time and I know Paul is going to be fine.
Special prayers for the doctors and therapists taking care of Paul that they will give that little bit extra that can make the difference.
All my best, Eleanor Day
Paul you are in my prayers and daily thoughts. Get well, and can't wait to hear from you.

Hey Paul,
I've heard they're letting you smell the coffee these days.
Love you and Patty and Buzz.

Hey Paul,
Glad you have had all the tubes and crap pulled out of you. Just another step on the road to recovery. Keep fighting, big guy!
Rob
Hello Paul.....
Karen and Bobby Hatfield

There was a familiarness to him but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Your pal,
Margie Bowles
I was thinking of you and your family and wanted to stop by and say "hello". I was on press with Jeff Blanks a week or two ago and we got into a discussion about you. He heard through a golfing friend. If you are trying to get famous in the golf world this may be the wrong way about it. :) Anyhow, keeping you and yours in my prayers as well as passing your name along to every praying person I know.
Adrianne Fenimore (RSW)
Paul - It's time to wake up and enjoy the Texas summer heat!!
You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Paul and Jerde family,
I was heartbroken to read what happened on Facebook. =)
Marianne R Dunn
Just wanted to let you know I check the blog regularly for updates and continue to pray for you and your family! Get well soon.

Delighted to hear of Paul's progress!!
Margaret (Maggie) Maresh
I cannot go a day without you in my thoughts. I hope all the best for you. I sent info to some bike friends and they are constantly asking about you. Keep pulling and love to your family. I know you can do it, the love around you is overwhelming.
Best to all
Neal Farris
Paul, Your old Cedar Rapids, St Matthews Church has been praying for you since your accident happened. At last today at Mass, we had the good fortune to see your wonderful Mother. She let us know about this Blog and I have been reading it all afternoon. I loved seeing the pictures of you and your beautiful family. I would know you anywhere with that same contagious, spirited smile we remember even as a little boy in grade school. We continue to pray for you every day. And for your wife, son, Mom and siblings as well. Gretchen & Mike Sullivan
Good Morning Paul,
Just visited your update blog, and it looks to me like you are making progress.
Much love,
James and Audrey Harrell
Paul and Patty - Just wanted to let you know you are both still in so many people's thoughts and prayers everyday. God bless you both, stay strong...The progress is really good, I know sometimes it's tough to see it when you're there everyday but it's really awesome.
If you need anything at all...you know I've got a list a mile long of people just waiting for the opportunity to do something. See you both soon,
Sam
Scott, Noelle, Zoe and Zachary
Paul's progress seems very positive. My thoughts and prayers are with you all daily.
Eleanor
Hey Paul,
I wanted to let you know that my CRHP brothers from St. Jude's Parish in Allen have been and are still praying for your speedy recovery and for Patty, Buzz and your whole family.
Take care brotha!
Cesar Sanchez
Hello my brother in law....I just bathed your new nephew, and thought I would pop on & see what was going on with you.
I can't wait to come visit you again and see all the progress you've made. I love reading the story about how you had to wear a mitten, yet STILL figured out how to pull it off! Only you!!
We love you and you are constantly in our thoughts and conversations. Once Little Bobby has had his shots, I will bring him up to meet his Uncle Paul.
Karen Hatfield
We are still cheering for you!! Loud and strong from Minnesota.
Margaret (Maggie) Maresh and family
Hey, Paul!
Hey buddy, we're praying for you. The whole Saturday morning crew. We miss you big guy. Hurry back.

Hello Paul, Patty and Buzz,
We are watching the progress reports and praying every night for continued improvement. Slow and steady works the best. Hope summer in Dallas hasn't been to harsh. Up here in Wisconsin, we put in the air-conditioner but never needed to use it this year. (don't hurt me). You can get even when winter comes. :) - Love, Cousin Joanne
Hello Paul,
I was a student of yours in 2007for Graphic Design at UNT. You have always inspired me and pushed me to work harder as a designer. Im in Zurich, Switzerland now and have a great position. And I do feel part of it is because of you. I hope you wake up soon and I send my prayers to you and your family.

Hi Paul:
Much love to you, Patty, Buzz and the rest of the family,

Paul, Patty and family - You are in my prayers daily. This is God's country out here and they tell me the prayers have more power since the source is so close.
I know the source is there too and working. "Patience" is the key. It helps us see the important things.
Someone said that the 23rd Psalm is a Psalm to "Live" by. They said that sometimes in our hurried, busy world, God has to put his foot on us and make us lie down in green pastures. Sometimes he makes us rest.

Paul,
Just got word of your accident my friend. - Very sorry to hear the news. - I am praying for your complete recovery; protection, peace & comfort for your family; and wisdom for your caregivers, doctors, nurses. Also praying that your story is one that brings hope and encouragement to many. -
Thankful for you.
Jon
Thinking of you my friend!! Just ran across an email from you from a long time ago that made me laugh. Hang in there... your improvements are wonderful.
Patty - I know it's a long recovery process but your strength continues to amaze us all and we know Paul is so lucky to have you by his side.
Take care and hope to see you soon,
Sam
Glad to hear there is some progress. You are greatly missed.
Also, not to be rude or anything, you missed a deadline on a project we were working on, but I think I covered it.
Seriously, I know we all want more than just baby steps, but that's what's it's going to be about. Just know you will have many, many shoulders to lean on as needed.
Paul and Patty,
It sounds like Paul is making some real progress.
Keep up the good work.
Eleanor Day
Oh my gosh, Patty! I'm so glad to hear that Paul is making such great progress. I've been keeping you all in my prayers, and truly send good vibes every moment of every day. Hang in there. Your love is obviously making all the difference.

Hey Uncle Paul,
This message is from your nephew, Little Bobby. I have heard so many great things about you and now that I have gotten more shots...I'm thinking perhaps a visit is in order? I will talk to my mommy and daddy about it. I love you and can't wait to meet you. You keep working hard and know that we are all thinking about you!
I love you...Little Bobby
Paul,
I am thrilled you are being relocated. I know Patty is excited about your progress & I love to hear the updates through Bobby. I look forward to seeing you again soon. You keep up the hard work and we all are looking forward to the day when you get to come home. We will have a huge family celebration in your honor! We love you! Karen & Bobby
The news and progress keeps getting better. The new rehab setup at Pate sounds like a great move. Keep up the good fight Paul, Patty and Buzz.
Emma
Dear Uncle Paul,
Mommy and Daddy talk about you constantly.
I love you, Little Bobby
Patty,
I know this has been a very challenging time for you & Paul. Change is always hard especially when you were so happy with the place you came from.
We are all here for you...to support you, love you and listen. Good days will continue and before you know it, your wonderful husband will be home where he should be.
We look forward to making the trip to Anna to see Paul and see how far he's come.
We love you, Karen & Bobby
I recently learned of Paul's accident this week from Brad. Having worked with Paul a few years ago at RSW, I know what a smart, creative thinker he is; he's probably thinking up hospital jokes to use for later.
I think I'll send Paul a Cubs hat; it's never too late to become a Cubs fan.
All the folks in Chicago are wishing you the best!
Diane
Paul,
Sending you good thoughts to help you to keep getting stronger!!

Paul,
I always love to read Patty's updates.

Paul,
I am just catching up with your newest adventure.

Emma @DROC

Paul and Patty,
I love reading this blog and seeing how all of you are doing.

I have not spoke to Ya'll in a while, Cherie I moved to Nashville w/ the new Dick's Last Resort Co in Feb. We miss being in Dallas w/ all of our friends and family, but all in all, Nashville is a pretty cool place to live. Paul, you look like you are making fine progress, I'm so glad to see it. I know that you will continue to work hard not just for yourself, but for Buzz and for Patty.
Love to all,
